Algebraic and Differential Nonlinear Superposition Formulas

Knowledge of the Lax pair and the Darboux transformation for a completely integrable system provides an iterative approach for generating exact solutions. This approach involves solving for the eigenfunction of the Lax pair at each step. But this process can be considerably simplified using the Bäcklund transformation and Bianchi's permutability theorem. This allows constructing the so-called nonlinear superposition formula, which provides a new solution of the system in terms of three previous solutions. The advantage of this approach is that the differential order of the nonlinear superposition formulas is lower than that of the Lax pairs, and in some cases, these formulas reduce to algebraic equations. We consider the construction of new nonlinear superposition formulas in the form of both differential equations and algebraic equations.

利用Ditzian-Totik光滑模对于[0,1]上定义的非角连续函数f(x)，且f(x)≠0，文中证明存在正系数多项式Pn(x)及常数C，使得|f9x)-1/Pn(x)|≤Cωψ^λ（f,n^-1/2(ψ(x) 1/√n)^1-λ)。当λ＝1时，上述结果导出已有的整体估计，而当0≤λ＜1时，得到倒数逼近一个新的点态局部估计。     

Almost automorphic solutions for abstract functional differential equations

For abstract linear functional differential equations with an almost automorphic forcing term, we establish a result on the existence of almost automorphic solutions, which extends the classical theorem due to Massera on the existence of periodic solutions for linear periodic ordinary differential equations.     

Sample path analysis of level crossings for the workload process

We examine level crossings of sample paths of queueing processes and investigate the conditions under which the limiting empirical distribution for the workload process exists and is absolutely continuous. The connection between the density of the workload distribution and the rate of downcrossings is established as a sample path result that does not depend on any stochastic assumptions. As a corollary, we obtain the sample path version of the Takács formula connecting the time and customer stationary distributions in a queue. Defective limiting empirical distributions are considered and an expression for the mass at infinity is derived.This research has been supported in part by NSF Grants ECS-8811003 and DDM-8905638.     

一类非线性算子方程的多重正解及其应用

本文利用不动点指数理论对一类非线性算子方程建立了多重正解的存在性定理，并将所获结果应用到Ｈａｍｍｅｒｓｔｅｉｎ积分方程和Ｓｔｕｒｍ Ｌｉｏｕｖｉｌｅ两点边值问题，得到了新的结论，本质上改进和推广了［２，４，５，６，８－１２］的工作．     

Radon变换和衰减Radon变换的分析研究

衰减Radon变换出现在单光子放射型计算机层析成像中。本文首先回顾和研究了Radon变换和衰减Radon变换及其反演的有关结论，进而提出了Tretiak-Metz结果的一种新证明方法，对于一般对象，本文用变换方法非滤子背投影法导出了衰减Radon变换的反演公式。     

The completely positive and doubly nonnegative completion problems

We prove the following. Let G be an undirected graph. Every partially specified symmetric matrix, the graph of whose specified entries is G and each of whose fully specified submatrices is completely positive (equal to BB^T for some entrywise nonnegative matrix B), may be completed to a completely positive matrix if and only if G is a block-clique graph (a chordal graph in which distinct maximal cliques overlap in at most one vertex). The same result holds for matrices that are doubly nonnegative (entrywise nonnegative and positive semidefinite).     

Invariants for normal completely positive maps on the hyperfinite II1 factor

We investigate certain classes of normal completely positive (CP) maps on the hyperfinite II₁ factorA. Using the representation theory of a suitable irrational rotation algebra, we propose some computable invariants for such CP maps. Dedicated to Professor K B Sinha     

Behaviors of the positive temperature coefficient of resistance of poly(styrene‐co‐n‐butylacrylate) filled with Ni‐plated core‐shell polymeric particles

Conductive composite films of poly(styrene‐co‐n‐butylacrylate) copolymers filled with low‐density, Ni‐plated core‐shell polymeric particles were prepared and their behaviors of positive temperature coefficient of resistance (PTCR) were investigated. When the conductive fillers in the composite film were loaded beyond the critical volume, 10 up to 25 vol %, composite films exhibited a unique electrical resistant transition behavior, which the electrical resistance rapidly increased by several orders of magnitude at the critical temperature. The PTCR transition temperature, in general, occurred before the glass transition temperature of polymer matrix. Further increased the conductive filler loading to 30 vol %, the overpacked conduction paths were formed in the entire composite and the PTCR effects became blurred. While the composite film treated with thermal cycle several times from room temperature up to 120 °C, the electrical resistivity increased accompanied with the shift of the PTCR transition to lower temperature.
